I find myself increasingly frustrated by specific ways the American devotion to capital makes life worse, and today I realized part of why. I invited people to this country to be my family, and now I feel responsible for how I perceive this country’s failing compared to whence they came.

Musing on this, my partner interrupted me to say that things here are better, and I should stop. I needed to hear that today!

I am entirely on board the jamstack, progressive enhancement, browser performance, a11y-first, vanilla-everything pain train, and I've been pretty good at finding jobs for my 17 years as a web dev, but I'm having a terrible time finding jobs that actually do this stuff. I'm convinced I'm not searching the right keywords, but maybe that's not it.

Any suggestions, fediverse?

Today in Labor History December 10, 1907: The worst night of the Brown Dog riots in London, when 1,000 medical students clashed with animal rights protesters and cops. They had been protesting against a memorial for animals that had been vivisected that animal rights activists had erected. The Brown Dog affair raged for 7 years, from 1903 to 1910. Swedish feminists infiltrated the University of London lectures. There were pitched battles between medical students and the police. The authorities ordered the cops to protect a statue of a dog from irate medical students, known as “anti-doggers.” It led to a Royal Commission to investigate the use of animals in experiments. And, overall, it was a cause célèbre that divided the country.

Today we took parents shopping,
Then went to the GP to make an appointment for Mum.
Got a delivery from ToolStation,
So was able to start installing draught proofing door brushes.
Had to add carpet to granny flat hallway,
To help draught proof parent's door.
Started an upholstery project,
With my new 12V stapler.
Worked on a miniature showwer tray,
It wasn't going to work.
Checked on parents,
And did a crossword in the newspaper.
Made and hung a miniature door,
Then took it off for painting.
Got a meeting booked with my manager,
And one with the reverend.
Designed a 3D print miniature shower tray,
And printed it out in 4 hours.
Caught up with YouTube,
And watched recorded TV.
Cleaned up the print,
And made sure it works.
How is it still only Tuesday?
Time for bed.
