People keep @'ing me claiming that Musk spent $44 billion to destroy Twitter> i.e., that he is deliberately tanking the company.

I guess anything is possible, but I've seen absolutely nothing that supports that theory is true.

Perhaps if it does get destroyed he'll retcon that as an explanation, but I do not buy that he deliberately set billions of dollars on fire like that.

@mmasnick I don't think he bought it to destroy it, but it's hard to wrap my head around him being this inept.

@michaellammer Once you realize that net worth is wholly disconnected from competence, it gets a lot easier.

@LouisIngenthron I've never assumed he's as brilliant as people claimed, I just didn't think it was possible for someone to be this incompetent and not end up starving to death after getting stuck in a revolving door.

@michaellammer @LouisIngenthron The type of personality that allows someone to accumulate such wealth seems to come with some skill at passing on the losses from bad decisions to other non billionaires

@michaellammer The funny thing is, this level of incompetence and success comingling are so intrinsic to human nature that we even have an ancient, well-known parable to explain to us how the yes-men around the rich dude make him even less competent.
Elon's army of yes-men are similarly trying to convince the world that he is, in fact, wearing clothes.
