@oliphant @freakazoid @Popehat Wait, what is this UFI thing? Haven’t heard of it (though by context sounds like that’s a good thing)
@jbc_3 @freakazoid @Popehat It's a really long story.
qoto got defederated.
Qoto then sent emails to several instance admins asking to be unblocked.
Admin of Qoto came up with the UFI, presumably, as a means of getting back to unblocked status.
One of the rules of the UFI is that members of the UFI *must* federate with each other.
It's viewed as a sneaky end-run around being blocked, and a way of bundling nazi servers together.
Though still can't see members yet.
@oliphant @freakazoid @Popehat Seems like “a way of bundling Nazi servers together” would also be “a way of mass blocking Nazi servers,” no?
Very likely, but I think the idea is that the reasonableness of the proposal will attract many instance admins, who will join onto the UFI and provide a pressuring component on other aspects of the Fediverse, with whom they do defederate.
In actual practice, if you federate with "nazis" (I use that as a grab-bag term), your server gets defederated.
@jbc_3 @oliphant @freakazoid Please consider seeking out the other side of the story.

> uofi: A federation of good-faith actors on the Fediverse
Ha! Okay, no.
