Please, stop saying that Musk normalized EVs.

He normalized EVs in the same way that Lewis and Clark "discovered" US rivers (that literally had people fishing in them) or the way that Cotton Mather "discovered" Smallpox innoculation (by watching his slaves do it). The "for white people" is silent.

EVs were normal in Asia. There was a small blip in history (after the Nissan Leaf, and before BYD) when Tesla sold lots of luxury EVs to rich Americans.

Had Tesla never existed, EVs would still have happened.

It's so hard for us folk in the US to accept that we are not always the leader in innovation. Sometimes, we are super late. 🤷🏿‍♂️

Please don't boast about Tesla's battery and range innovations, if you don't know that they bought those batteries and that battery tech from Panasonic, where they'd been in use for years before Tesla existed.

Don't boast about EV trucks and buses. I'll say BYD.

@mekkaokereke
Well one thing that he actually did do was waking the interest in hardcore capitalists, take a look at "Who killed the electric car?".
Musk having enough money, being as ruthless as the ones he was up against and only focusing on EV made it so that the oil industry couldn't just lobby it away.

I agree that it probably would still have happened, but later, rather than sooner.

@ami @mekkaokereke "Later" maybe wouldn't even be a bad thing, if it meant we got more of our grid off fossil fuels so EVs weren't just burning carbon indirectly.
