@markmccaughrean The Windows version isn't great either. Outlook is just vastly overrated in general.
Use Thunderbird instead. I've been on that for over a decade now.
@markmccaughrean Ugh, bureaucracy. 🤦♂️
@LouisIngenthron And don’t even get me started on the corporate profile installed on our work phones, where someone decided to set the time before the screen auto-dims to just 20 seconds & auto-lock to 30 seconds, & removed the possibility of setting them longer. Mindless control freakery.
@markmccaughrean Agreed. Back when I was a CTO, I actively resisted pressure to impose such nonsense rules on a regular basis.
It's the same folks imposing these rules that are uncomfortable with their employees working from home; they're just totally incapable of trusting that subordinates aren't trying to screw them, which ends up being very revealing about their own motivations.
Although, I imagine it's a bit different for you since you're in the public sector, right?
@LouisIngenthron When it comes to our IT rules, I suspect we’re run under similar conditions to corporate settings. Yes, I understand that for certain of our admin activities, the corporate style security may be necessary (eg no root password to your own laptop), but the inflexible “one size fits all” approach really doesn’t recognise how scientists & engineers (of which we have lots) actually do their jobs.
@LouisIngenthron Unfortunately that’s not an option for my work email – we are only allowed to use Outlook & cannot IMAP to another reader or auto-forward emails elsewhere. Needless to say, I do not use it for my personal email.
