@ThinkingSapien It sounds like you're being exploited for your labor, tbh. I used to be that guy too, until I realized that I was killing myself to enrich people who didn't give a shit about me.
What you're describing is roughly the CompSci equivalent of "Your company-issued lawn maintenance tools are required to be in good working order at all times, but you're not allowed to clean or maintain them on the clock."
@ThinkingSapien Well, either update your resume or ask for a raise... ideally both at the same time.
lol, I recently got a raise and a title promotion after two higher ups realized what was going on concerning another project.
Basically some management lied about the completion level of a project, assigned it to me, and then quit as I was discovering that was all lies.
I had to write a lot from scratch and make it work on unproven technologies and an unsupported OS.
Was quite the nightpare...
Those same mangers that quite tried to steal some business from us. A client's project stopped working because the servers in a cloud were deallocated because management that quit had cut off payment to the cloud subscription, having never actually followed the trackable corporate procedures for setting that up. When it all went to heck, they showed up to the client saying they could fix it...
...they then tried to get a friend of theirs still in the company to send them the test machine that was there for the project. That didn't happen because I had taken that machine home. Eventually that person asked me if I knew where the machine is. When I had mentioned that to another manager, that somehow gave them enough info to let them know what was going on.
@ThinkingSapien Crazy. Sounds like a poorly-managed company in general, tbh.
I've had other friends say it sounds like a management problem too.
I don't disagree. And this lawn maintenance is causing me quality of life issues as I found that I'm experiencing an increasing stress response to problems that come up in the fragile implementation.
I especially hate that I am the only one responsible for maintaining this system.
The people that originally designed this system did it pre-pandemic and quit at the pandemic. I got stuck with it last year...
