Say, I have a Senatorial AITA query. Today, I got an email from a lobby group who goals I support, asking me to give a statement in the Senate in support of their cause. So far, so normal. But then they sent me the speech they wanted me to read. As if I would ever read the words of any lobby groups, verbatim, in the Senate, as my own! So I confess, I sent back a RATHER snippy note. But am I just being naive? Do other pols do such things?? #Canada #SenateofCanada #cdnpoli

I mean, I don't think I'm really supposed to send snippy notes back to a nice well-intentioned not-for-profit lobby group. But my gracious. I don't even let my own staff write my speeches. I write every word myself. I take some pride in my speeches, TBH. And I don't give them to order, even for causes I support.

@Paulatics mmm if it was me, I’d provide you with key messages but would only write a whole speech if specifically asked. BTW It would also be weird to be asked. Even weirder to presume and do it anyhow.

@bingofuel Nope. Not looking for key messages either. Especially not on their particular topic, which is one I know intimately. But maybe I am naive??

@Paulatics @bingofuel I'm not looking for endless letters begging for donations, but I keep getting those from causes I support. 🤷‍♂️ I would treat a receipt of key points to incorporate from their message as a similarly robotic gesture that can easily be dismissed.

But asking you to repeat a whole speech verbatim? Beyond the pale.
