Or, it could be a story of poorly educated police that don't understand/ don't care about laws.
Remember, in most jurisdictions, hairstylists have more training than law enforcement officers.

@Katrags @albertsy @georgetakei Very possible, but in the story (I searched for and found it, it didn't even make the front page), the victims claimed to talk to a detective, who should know the law a little better.

Like I said: fishy.

@LouisIngenthron @albertsy @georgetakei
"Should" is the operative word there.
My grandfather (a police Chief) used to say "1/3 of police are good. 1/3 need more training, and 1/3 should not be allowed to have a gun, let alone a badge".
As DeSantis actively marketed Florida to law enforcement that refused to follow the mask mandates, et al., the likelihood of this cop just being a bad one is much higher in Florida than in other places.

@Katrags Yep, like I said, that is very possible. But I think it's also possible that this is a hoax or that the victims are exaggerating parts of the story.

@LouisIngenthron @Katrags I don’t think so. This is Floriduh! 💩💩💩 happens like this all the time.

There is a reason why there is a 1940s Bugs Bunny cartoon about Florida and its still used today.

@Katrags @LouisIngenthron LOL 😆I’ve used that meme many times because I know these natives are ridiculous. It’s the weather🤣

Its also the culture- a interesting mix of diversity due to immigration- Southern Confederate - unhappy retirees who moved thinking the sun would make them happier people ( it doesn't).

@Katrags @LouisIngenthron My Mom always said “The South Will NEVER change” she was a history teacher. And she was right.

@Katrags @LouisIngenthron You must be an educator. I come a generation of educators including my daughter and husb. Will follow👍🏼

Middle school, with mostly boys (usually 85% of the class, usually) because I don't suffer fools gladly.

@Katrags @LouisIngenthron My parents taught middle school. My mother for 40 years. She always said the boys were a lot more easier to teach.🤷‍♀️She taught in the PhilaSchoolDist. The girls she said were always smelling their upper lip🙄 My Pop taught language arts. No complaints. My gmom was a physical, education teacher in DC. Once she got married, she had to retire that’s what they did back in those days. She sub-taught later. My daughter teaches history.Husb/math

They are different.Girls are much more subtle , while boys are more open about their learning/ behaviors.
You have to check in with girls more, while boys you have to pick your battles.
Case in point: this year I have a lot of dancers and verbal diarrhea. They pay attention and ask good questions, but they are doing some tiktok dance in the back of the room and blurting out the answer/ problem before I can even get to the question.
