“What astonishes me is that the oil and gas industry makes apparently no effort to get on the right side of history. They’re just flaunting their profits in front of everyone without any sensitivity to the impact of that.”

“These unprecedented profits are not being put to the use of humanity. They are being put to the use of the industry and its shareholders – a very tiny little portion of humanity. I am actually outraged that that is the choice that they have been making.”

The oil and gas industry has made an average of $1tn a year in pure profit for the past 50 years.

@tobeB sorry but how is that astonishing? That's what corps do. And FYI many of the biggest oil companies are state-owned, so they are being put to service of a portion of humanity.

What's astonishing is that we don't keep fossil fuel at effectively $100 a barrel forever through taxes. Governments are the ones that are failing, not companies.

@guacamayan @tobeB Bingo. This is just history repeating itself... railroad tycoons, East India Company, the companies that operated the slave trade, the companies that manufactured Zyklon B...

They don't care about the right side of history. They only care about profit. Anyone who is astonished didn't pay attention in history class.
