@supernovae yeah but our parents and grandparents still expected free elections with a peaceful transfer of power. They didn't expect Canada and Siberia to be on fire. They didn't expect flooding on clear days.

@NickGates @supernovae@universeodon.com Sure, our ancestors expected "free elections"... if they were white and male. Our elections today are *still* more free than the average election in our nation's history. Have we taken a few small steps back? Sure, but that still doesn't compare to the great leaps forward in our past. The pendulum will keep swinging, but over a long enough perspective, things keep getting better and better.
