The companies that have said they qualify as "#gatekeepers" under the #EU law are Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, ByteDance, Meta, Microsoft, and Samsung. Gatekeepers are companies with an annual turnover in Europe of at least €7.5 billion (among a few other requirements)

They are prohibited from favoring their own services over rivals and from locking users into their ecosystem. They must allow 3rd parties to interoperate in their ecosystem. Compliance begins in #2024.

@ThinkingSapien That's such a strange concept. "Hey for-profit business, stop favoring your profits over your competitors!"

I too find it strange. It just feels as natural for me for a business to prefer its own products as a parent their own child.

I just expect some weird things to result as did with the Microsoft Antitrust case, such as MSFT beign prohibited from adding virus protection of the ability to play an MP3 because it denies the consumer an opportunity consider possibly better products.
