#Disney shouldn’t be surprised most of their “tentpole” movies are not getting $1B this year. Their theme parks average 2 to 3 times in spend vs 5 years ago.
In #DisneyWorld theme parks, there are no theaters at all. Put 1 huge theater in each of the 4 parks (each running a new/recent release), built to handle - say - 400 ppl. Charge $15/ea person. During extremely hot days or rainy days it would sell out!!!
There’s your $1B film Disney! @DanielleSATM @mikebrew @Jayslacks
@jann People don't come to Disney World to watch movies, though. After paying hundreds of dollars for tickets, they want to get their money's worth, not spend two hours doing something they could do at home.
@LouisIngenthron Wanna bet? I take about a dozen rides a day to the theater at Disney Springs here at #DisneyWorld. The parents want a break in the cool air, and the kids want a nap. So, they go to the theater.
@jann Right, but Disney Springs is free to enter. The parks aren't.
@LouisIngenthron Okay, maybe I mis-stated what I meant. I pick them up FROM the parks to GO TO the theater....
Whenever it gets too hot or rainy or even when the kids are crabby. The parents tell me why they're leaving the park and going to the theater.
@jann Ah, gotcha. Interesting; maybe Disney's other indoor attractions just aren't quite so affordable.
@jann Right, but can't they usually achieve that for free in the hotel with the TV there, or with an iPad? Why go somewhere where they have to subject themselves to a children's cartoon too?
Maybe they just have an on-vacation "need to do something" and going to a movie is the least something they can do to fulfill that need.
@LouisIngenthron Not all parents stay at a hotel on-property - and after the rest they go back to the parks. it's a long slog sometimes with Orlando traffic...
Anyway, just an idea to help their (and other companies') slumping movie business lately.
