@GramrgednAngel @kegill Even so. A private company paying someone for more than half a year for a job they can't do seems insane. That's what government disability benefits are for.
@LouisIngenthron @GramrgednAngel
Louis, have you ever tried to get disability benefits, even partial? My husband has. It is practically impossible without an attorney. And even then, hard as hell. (He has a 1-in-million auto immune condition and 3-4 months of no immune system after treatment.)
Have you ever been through six weeks if radiation? Six months of chemo?
Talk to me about “disability benefits” then.
@kegill @GramrgednAngel Oh, I agree government benefits need to be vastly expanded upon and improved.
But why should businesses, especially small businesses that can't afford to pay a salary while getting absolutely nothing in return, have to pick up that slack?
@LouisIngenthron @GramrgednAngel
Sure. I have no problem with our billionaire dollar CEOs and corporations paying more taxes.
I think you SERIOUSLY missed the point.
@kegill @GramrgednAngel Most businesses aren't run by billion dollar CEOs. They're run by your neighbors, just trying to keep their heads above water.
@kegill @GramrgednAngel Although, to be fair, the fact that it's only $140 a week means it's not that much of a burden. I missed that.
@kegill @LouisIngenthron ::fistbump of solidarity for Kathy:: Hear, hear. We went through the disability wringer a couple of years ago.
And there's the myriad chronic illnesses/conditions that render one unable to function at capacity.
So much wrong with this busted "system."
@GramrgednAngel @LouisIngenthron
I’m very sorry.
Mike is lucky. We live in Seattle suburbs, and one of the premier researchers/doctors in the country who treated his condition was here. At UWa.
He has to get a treatment (6 weeks of infusions) about every 18-24 months.
Science fiction world:
Do you know Karen Anderson (Seattle) or Nisi Shawl (Seattle)?
@kegill personally? I do not. I know of their work, though, sure.
@LouisIngenthron @kegill COVID-19 is a bitch.
