Today’s #JournalisticMalpractice comes to us from #Alabama.
The #AppleNews headline is disingenuous #clickbait:
‘Federal court selects new Alabama congressional map that could flip a seat to De…’
NOPE! The map “remedies” #GOP “vote dilution” of Black Alabamians.
“Flip” is GOP spin: “fear mongering/they are cheating”
Facebook “sharing preview” for the Alabama Reflector story is ONLY the title:
‘Federal court selects new Alabama congressional map’
https://alabamareflector.com/2023/10/05/federal-court-selects-new-alabama-congressional-map/
@kegill Wait. Why are you blaming Apple News for aggregating it and not the Alabama Reflector for writing it?
@kegill My apologies. It is also possible Apple News cached an earlier headline before it was modified.
Curiously, Politico currently has the maligned headline, almost word-for-word, on one of its articles:
https://www.politico.com/news/2023/10/05/court-picks-alabamas-new-congressional-map-00120129
The story was modified 13 sec after publishing - probably too quickly for it to be the hede. That’s usually an “uh oh” misspelling or typo.
@LouisIngenthron
In my experience, FB will show the original headline not an updated one.
Thanks for the Politico tip. I’ll add them (not surprised).
