The reporter’s flat tone in describing this latest ‘police officer shoots Black man during traffic stop’ video makes the play-by-play all the more chilling.
Missing context.
How would a White man of the same age been treated? What is protocol?
GA law office contradicts the shooter;
“Technically, speeding is a misdemeanor in Georgia. A conviction could mean a year in jail. Usually, however, a speeding ticket means a fine.”
@kegill More needless escalation... all the more reason to question why we allow traffic cops to be armed with deadly weapons in the first place.
Amen.
I don’t know what traffic is like on I95, but I can assure you that 20 over is COMMON on 185, 85, 285, 75 when not congested.
I was home last week. Drivers are more, umm, crazy than ever. While growing up, I heard regular jokes about crazy drivers in Atlanta.
I was in AM rush hour in Atlanta on a six lane stretch of 75/85 at one point … shaking my head at the general insanity of our car-based culture.
@kegill Oh, I've gotten that exact same "Super Speeder" ticket on 75 in southern Georgia.
Granted, I wasn't "driving recklessly", but I wasn't even asked to step out of my car. They just gave me the ticket and sent me on my merry way.
@kegill I assume the "step out of the car" was for the reckless driving, to administer a breathalyzer, which would be reasonable under the circumstances, but was still handled terribly.
No idea on the county, but, if I recall correctly, it wouldn't really matter, because Georgia has a separation of duties between highway patrol and local county sheriffs.
@LouisIngenthron
It’s Camden County.
Not the same: Ahmaud was murdered in Glynn County, but they are side by side.
