OpenAI is the pure bullshit company.
Altman's contention that they are building "artificial superintelligence": Bullshit.
Board members' cult of effective altruism: Bullshit.
Output from the machine: Bullshit.
It's all hallucinations: Pure bullshit.

@jeffjarvis there products ChatGPT and GPT4 are doing fine in the market however

@f4grx @jeffjarvis ... it's problematic, risky, not useful in every context, but GPT4 is not bullshit, i have been experimenting with it myself, it has added value in certain contexts and if you know what you are doing

@ErikJonker @jeffjarvis how much do you like that these tools are just rehashing knowledge stolen from other parts of the web? As "useful" as it could be this tool has the worst ethics base in the world.

@f4grx @jeffjarvis ..we agree that there are big problems and risks, but the whole reasoning GPT4 is all bullshit i don't agree with.

@ErikJonker @f4grx @jeffjarvis Taken as a whole, the "AI" industry is bullshit. ChatGPT4 might be useful for whatever edge cases you find useful, but the idea that these parasites are ushering in some kind of golden age of intelligent computers doing everything for us is *bullshit*.
I'm sick of rich fucks telling the rest of us how much better everything will be thanks to them, while flushing 90% of the population down the toilet for a profitable quarter.

@knightlie @ErikJonker @f4grx @jeffjarvis So it sounds like you're actually mad at marketing and garden-variety businessmen, not LLM tech.

@LouisIngenthron @ErikJonker @f4grx @jeffjarvis I mean, the tech doesn’t matter. NFTs were last last huge grift that was supposed to be The Future.

@knightlie @ErikJonker @f4grx @jeffjarvis Right, but they were bullshit even at the tech level. LLMs do have actual revolutionary uses, even if marketing is currently overselling those uses.

@knightlie @LouisIngenthron @f4grx @jeffjarvis ...LLMs are quite good with.... language (no surprises here), summarizing, proposing an alternative wording, analysing text are things GPT4 does well. Also with web browsing enabled it works quite well as an alternative to search, more interactive, in natural language, although ofcourse unreliable (my opinion/experience)

@ErikJonker @knightlie @f4grx @jeffjarvis Also, corollary to that, they're incredible at translating between languages, which up to this point has been a very expensive and error-prone human process.

@LouisIngenthron @ErikJonker @f4grx @jeffjarvis finally, an actual use that may be generally beneficial outside of “making my job a bit easier.”

Follow

@knightlie @ErikJonker @f4grx @jeffjarvis I mean, making people's jobs easier isn't a bad thing. It's a close race between that and war for what drives our species to innovate the most.
