The university I used to work for has declared "hate speech" constitutionally protected, which should therefore be permitted/supported comfortably even in the classroom. If a professor calls it out - maybe calls #haters "twits," the professor's speech is NOT protected. The prof is sanctioned, removed from the classroom. #hatespeech #doublestandards #freespeech

...but so is criticism of it.
In theory, the professors couldn't *prevent* the students from saying hateful things, but they should absolutely be able to rebut them and call them out for what they are.
