“Serious New Warning As Google AI Targets Billions Of Private Messages”
The AI Bubble is anti-privacy, anti-labour, anti-quality, and in an all-out war against anything resembling a creative practice. This is who you’re siding with when you’re using these tools. https://www.forbes.com/sites/zakdoffman/2024/01/28/new-details-free-ai-upgrade-for-google-and-samsung-android-users-leaks/?sh=3396b4317a94
@NeadReport That's certainly possible... Google is pretty good about having working permission toggles *somewhere* for privacy settings. But you also have the option of uninstalling the app completely and using a 3rd-party messaging app.
@LouisIngenthron Yep, I saw someone asking for 3rd party options. What's your take? Are you using Messages currently?
@NeadReport I am, but I'm now looking to migrate. Haven't done the research yet, but I'd like to make the transition before this Bard integration happens.
@LouisIngenthron I'm running parallel to you on this. Feel free to tag me if you get onto something. I'm sure we'll have company.
I just did a quick search on this. I didn't even realize the default text messenger on my phone was from google. 😳 Had to look in the "about" doc to find the name. Signal seems a favorite, but there is still the problem of the people you message using an insecure message app. Not sure how to get around that 🤔
@crcollins @LouisIngenthron
It's not that others you send to are using an unsecure messaging app, it's that they are not using *the same app* as you. So basically no cross-app messaging. That folks, is the conundrum. Google baked it's Messages app into millions of Android phones and everyone (including me) gobbled it up.
Yeah I just downloaded Signal and it only added the contacts that also use Signal. None of those are people I regularly text. 😔 I invited them, but there's still the fact that businesses, my bank, doctors, etc all text me & it goes through that default app. 😱
@crcollins @LouisIngenthron
The struggle is real. We are all locked into our Google messanger app by design. I for one, may just go back to talking on the phone with an occasional carrier pigeon for important stuff.
@LouisIngenthron
Given everything else that was mentioned directly before your highlighted text, 'opting out' is in name only and really has no affect on our controlling the app to *ignore all A.I. snooping*.
My guess is this option will be buried in some sub setting by design.
