Greg Abbott is advocating open rebellion by claiming state sovereignty over national borders AND ignoring a SCOTUS ruling telling him “nope.”
And 25 GOP governors have pledged their support, including deploying their national guard.
Neither the NYT nor the Washington Post are reporting it. (Wapo columnists have skirted it.)
@kegill Texas has seceded from the Union.
All federal funds and infrastructure should be withdrawn.
@Thebratdragon "Secession" means something specific, and this isn't it.
At worst, they're "flouting federal authority" (which is still bad, no need to exaggerate it!)
@LouisIngenthron they have withdrawn deliberately from federal aithority and no longer abide by the laws of the union....
And are encouraging other states to do the same.
Sounds like secession to me.
@Thebratdragon By that logic, every state that's legalized marijuana has seceded.
Louis, 25 GOP governors are supporting Abbott and many have agreed to send their “national guard” troops to Texas to fight US Border Patrol. That’s armed rebellion.
@kegill @Thebratdragon "Rebellion" is certainly a better word than "secession", I'll give you that.
@Thebratdragon Words mean things, and nobody is served by diluting them with hyperbole.
"Secession" is an attempt to leave a union. Texas has stated no intent to leave the union, so there is no secession.
Texas is, however, (arguably) "rebelling" over a matter of jurisdictional law. Secession can be a casus belli for rebellion, but it's simply not the reason for this one.
@Thebratdragon It's become clear you have nothing valuable to add to the conversation. Goodbye.
@LouisIngenthron awwww did diddums find his dictionary app again.
So your grounds for them not being the same is Abbott hadn't said it.
But he just did it and being a good floridiot, you defend him.
