Good point. Thinking it through I don't know if that figure is meant to represent elapsed time or storage space (that's what I asumed when I first read it).

They did mean storage space.
To me "5,000 years" hits harder & is more relevant, both in human terms & technically (storage space is always going to vary based on many factors).
