Criminal prosecution is not a cure-all to accidental child-deaths, but this doesn't pass the smell test:
"this case was not a violation of that law and that the adults in the home are believed to have taken precautions to keep the weapon out of reach."
I'm sorry, but if a 3-year old can defeat your guns' security measures, you have NOT taken precautions.
