Didn't Mozilla say they didn't have enough resources to build a EU version of Mozilla AND a "rest-of-the-world" version? Yet they're laying off programmers!
@jann Well, yeah, it's a public benefit corp that runs largely on donations. So when it says it doesn't have enough resources, they mean "payroll".
@LouisIngenthron It would seem odd to lay off the people you are gonna need to implement any EU-related changes tho... hmmmm.
@jann ...not if you can't afford them anymore.
This isn't a publicly-traded company trying to maximize short-term gains for stockholders. It has to make sure it can continue to do what it does with the little it has.
More importantly, none of the layoffs affected the Firefox team. It was all VPN and 3D Hubs and mastodon staff that they axed, which is probably a good thing, so they can refocus on the browser.
