@pganssle What are your requirements? A built-in jet booster?
@shoq Yep. I assume that's because Mastodon users are typically more tech-savvy, and in my experience, tech-savvy folks are less likely to be morning people.
Texas has the strongest stand your ground laws in the country. Perry’s stand your ground defense failed. That should tell you something.
Even the courts in Texas did not believe that this was self-defense. The jury unanimously did not believe it was self-defense. In spite of that Abbott immediately says he is going to pardon the guy. In other words, in Abbott’s Texas other Republican states, kill a protester and get out of jail free. That's what he's encouraging.
Mehdi Hasan can, at times, be one of the most absolutely infuriating bougie liberal wankers in our media sometimes; but the fact that not one other member of the "cool kids" New York media circle used their relationship with nepo-baby Matt Taibbi to expose what a piece of dogshit, lying, reactionary trashfire Matt has openly become, is extremely telling. I don't think Hasan and I could be friends, but every once in a while, he forces me to respect him as a journalist and a stand up guy.

This is rendered from a 3D model fully aliased, converted to a palette, and then has an outline added. I still need to add edge lines and some more detail to certain areas of the ship...
@briannawu Couches and depth of field?
@shoq As I said, my goal is to provide an exit lane for those who are fed up, not try to convince those who wish to stay.
@shoq I don't have the kind of following necessary to do so, no.
But you're welcome to check my profile on Twitter to see what I did. It's the same handle as here.
@shoq The difference is that those other companies care about profit most because they have stockholders to please. That makes them malleable to public opinion.
Twitter is under no such restriction, as evidenced by its exodus of advertisers due to inviting right-wing nutjobs and despots onto its platform. As a private company, there's nothing stopping Musk from burning his $44 billion to the ground.
@shoq You're assuming that everyone on the Fediverse agrees that the goal is to get those 120 million people here.
I only want about 100 of them. There are several million that I'm actively happy *aren't* on the Fediverse.
But to reply to the core of your argument: I don't think there's any cheese that will convince the mice to come. All we can do is provide a comfy landing place for when the other side turns them off enough.
@shoq @izstranger @rlux No, it *was* corporate-owned. That was something many of us could deal with too. Corporations can be shamed and influenced.
Now, however, it's lunatic-owned.
Also: a person who clings to a sinking ship will drown whether they feel like they're drowning or not.
@shoq It is my opinion that more decisions *should* be driven by shame in this country and that's a standard we ought to aspire to.
Those who act shamefully should be shamed.
Those who wish to wash themselves of the shame of supporting a billionaire who props up Nazis are welcome to do so by exercising a little self control and leaving the platform. It's a social network, not a dialysis machine.
@grissallia @janeo3000 @caseynewton More importantly, who on his skeleton crew would even be able to detect that a single entity was "downloading" Twitter data? They're all too busy putting up doge pictures everywhere but the favicon.
And that's before you get to the fact that Elon apparently doesn't know what a VPN is, or how DNS works at all, based on his decision to block a domain.
@shoq Twitter itself is neither a victim nor a villain. It's a tool. And right now, it's a tool owned by a villain.
We just want to convince others to stop playing with the villain's tools, because he keeps drawing swastikas on them.
@trinsec Nah, he got a cuddle when I woke up, but he's a trooper.
If anything, I'm worried about my dog, who keeps getting into fights with raccoons.
