@stavvers While reading your post, what I noticed most was that the behaviour you're describing as "abhorrent" is... totally normal among male-to-male interactions. We *constantly* give each other unsolicited advice and push each other to improve (that probably makes up at least 30% of all male-to-male conversations). When another guy gives advice that I don't want, I just roll my eyes and ignore him.

Given this, it's easy to see why so many of us have trouble switching contexts to the female perspective.

The interesting thing about this post is that nearly every complaint is about a type of behaviour that is both common and expected among male-to-male interactions. We have a culture of pushing each other to improve. If you get a push you don't want, you just ignore it.

But, when it goes from male-to-male to male-to-female, suddenly these things are "hideously provocatively rude behaviour".

I wonder what that says about our society.

Reply guys are a menace on here. I wrote this for when one of them comes into your mentions so you can link it. In my experience, about 90% of the ...

@katfeete @ZachWeinersmith I am a software engineer and I agree that you've got the correct answer. Some crops are more amenable to automation, but fruit tends to have highly variable growth, doesn't necessarily ripen evenly across a crop, can be difficult to tell when it is ripe through objective measures, and most importantly, is often delicate (bruises easily).
All of those factors make automation difficult. AI could help on some (checking ripeness), but it doesn't solve others (delicateness).

is just for . Different religions are different brands. Organized religion are the bureaucratic megacorps with highly-refined products geared towards the previous generation and many skeletons in their closets.
Like most things being marketed to us, it's not something we need; we can pass down morality to our children without a brand name. And, also like most things being marketed, it's fundamentally identical to all of its competitors... except for just a few tiny differences that are just enough to cause fierce rivalries between even the customers of these brand-names.

So, I guess all of this is really just to say: If you absolutely have to outsource your family's morality, please shop local.

@mentallyalex Don't worry, haha. The second option is just a couple of joke movie references from the 80s.

@mentallyalex So, originally, I spent days going down a very long road (creating a custom Mastodon server to run games) that turned out to be a bit fruitless.
This afternoon, I tried a different approach (creating a custom Mastodon client to run games through a regular user account) and got it working in just hours. 🤦‍♂️

To test it, I hooked it up with the simplest game I knew, and a basic menu.

Now that I have the framework, I can try making more complex games. I'm going to start with tic tac toe next, followed by chess, followed by multiplayer support. Then I should have enough infrastructure to attempt something with a narrative.

As a Gen Xer, I confess that I did not expect a major portion of my midlife political energy to be spent on helping to finish off the Confederacy and finally end the Civil War.

@SecurityWriter For me, it's GIMP. Sacrifice just a little bit of the intuitiveness of the interface, and you have a program every bit as powerful as photoshop, and twice as extensible.

If there were a hypothetical framework that would make it easier to create collaborative running in the , but a side effect was that it also made it easier to build servers, should that framework be released ?

@peterdrake I've heard of structs being passed as ref, but I've never heard of anyone defining them as ref. That's just crazy.

The Fallout game series has officially ruined several old musical groups on Spotify. If you try to start an artist radio for The Ink Spots now, within a few songs it'll be playing some techno Minecraft remix song. I'm trying to listen to relaxing songs from the 1920s, not shitty songs from the 2020s!

ME: The Earth is 71% water
SCIENTIST: Yes. True.
ME: And practically all of that water is uncarbonated
SCIENTIST: Okay, sure. Not sure where you're going with this but
ME: So the Earth is flat
SCIENTIST...
ME: ...
SCIENTIST: Listen here you little shit

@peterdrake To be fair, *all* predefined types have associated upper-named classes, not just string and object. I.e. int has System.Int32

Everyone is scared AI will take over their jobs only because every single one of us would use an AI to do our job for us if we thought we could get away with it.
