@maxkennerly Why? A parody is intentionally meant to use the same music and similar words to evoke an original song.
That's a far cry from algorithmically coming up with an entirely new song.
Because some people only know how to destroy 🤦♂️
@lowqualityfacts In America, that's known as an "artisanal blend"
@RonaldTooTall That is a terrible article. The first sentence is just blatantly wrong.
@uspolitics So not only was he not censored (he was able to give the original speech), but even if he wasn't, that still wouldn't be censorship because it's a private invite-only podium.
@georgetakei Disagree. Anyone would have been scared in those circumstances. Dudes wanted to hang him!
True courage is facing that fear and doing the right thing. And that's exactly what he did.
@nixCraft Depends on the motivations.
The fact that he's openly revealing what he did and how (I could replicate this in 24 hours) seems fairly white-hat to me.
We should celebrate those who openly expose faults in major infrastructure. That pushes the owners to reckon with those faults.
One of the most important skills in modern life that most people don't talk about is the skill of choosing for whom you apportion your mental and emotional energy.
Is it sad that a relative of a random person you know on the internet just got cancer? Sure. Should you invest emotions into it? Absolutely not.
If you allow your emotions to be guided by anything you read on the internet, you'll be a mess (we all know the type).
But if you go too far the other way, you become callous and cruel to those outside your immediate circle.
Finding the balance is difficult, and we should talk about it more.
@annmlipton Wait, how do I start a stock again?
@davidsirota Fast? Isn't there more than a decade between those two headlines?
@Jason To be fair, that experience is probably wildly different between, say, JFK and DFW.
If you're not going to places like Texas and Missouri, then your post is totally accurate though.
36 years ago today was the Max Headroom TV STL hijacking. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Headroom_signal_hijacking
I regard this incident as the best and purest hacking prank in modern history. The combination of sophisticated, meticulous technical planning and execution, utterly juvenile content, essential harmlessness, lack of financial motive, and never getting caught or identified (or later taking credit) remains, in my opinion, unmatched to this day.
Pure art.
@krisnelson Hey, don't blame the machines. The machines did a great job until the marketers came in and intentionally broke all the machines to try to shove ads in our faces.
