@misc @DuncanWatson @caseynewton Last I checked, ChatGPT doesn't advertise on the factual accuracy of its AIs.
@DuncanWatson @caseynewton On the contrary. The calculator in this analogy does math perfectly.
Just because people put in bad input or don't like the results doesn't mean it's wrong.
The output categorically fits the expected rules which are advertised, which is to be grammatically correct, not factually correct.
@annmlipton I disagree with that. The opposite of democracy is trying to ensure that fewer people who don't support you *can* vote.
Trying to discourage the other team from showing up to the polls, especially by highlighting the weakness of their candidate, is a legitimate strategy.
@freemo It was Twitter's billionaire owner who did it, and there's evidence that he did so as part of a continuing pump-and-dump scheme.
@fourmajor Unfortunately, in the real world, following those rules just means your up-to-thirty employees won't be able to pay their mortgages.
These days, without marketing or sales, you simply don't exist.
@jeffjarvis If this works, I'm suing MadLibs.
This is nuts. The court has fully lost legitimacy until Thomas is no longer a member.

@jesuisatire Oh, I wouldn't mind open-sourcing it after launch. Like I said. It only matters until the first one is through the door.
@jesuisatire I'm tempted, but I've had too many ideas in my lifetime that I didn't have the resources to act on that others did and got rich off of.
This idea I have would be remarkably easy to implement...
or copy, yet it would need some semblance of a network effect to work. Therefore, its only path to success is building and then occupying its niche, sort of like Substack did. That means first one in the door wins.
I have a vested interest in sharing this with interested parties that could ultimately help build the initial momentum needed for the network effect, but putting it out in public would only work to my detriment. Especially if people respond positively to it, that just increases the chance that a millionaire with media connections swoops in and does it first.
@jesuisatire From my idea? In theory?
Everyone. Writers and readers, especially, but even the money people (publishers/owners) might gain a slight revenue advantage too.
@brody ...you don't have a Switch? I consider that mini physical media.
@hasmis The biggest problem I see with that is that, even today, nobody reads 6000 word essays. Not even editors.
@hasmis Not for the old way, no. It needs to adapt.
@SecurityWriter Right? Unfortunately, like with most games of its ilk, the familiarity you've gained in part one will automatically kill some of that fear for part two, so don't expect the full effect of it.
Not that Below Zero doesn't have its moments, but it also has voiced characters, which work to relieve tension as well. The loneliness of the first made it that much more terrifying.
@ravensrod @jasonpettigrove@mstdn.social Correct. That said, there is a form of verification, but it involves putting a small bit of code on a page that your profile links to to verify you own that link. Helps to determine which account is the real one when there are imposters.
@w7voa Waaay too coherent to have actually been written by him.
Can someone please help me find a professional #journalist who has ten minutes to discuss an idea? Ideally someone who works for an #independent #publisher, but someone who works for a big company would be fine too.
I've got a crazy-yet-simple idea that could be a paradigm shifter for #online #journalism and I need someone with real experience to poke some holes in it or it's gonna drive me crazy.
If you don't personally know anyone who might fit the bill, please boost for reach.
@schock What are you talking about??? It's brilliant! Get the dumbass investor class to fail faster so the rest of us stand a better chance at getting a real business off the ground!
@willoremus At this point, anyone who uses an LLM without an expectation of falsity is a fool anyway.
