@brody Weird... I've never seen that before. Maybe because I've got Search hidden from the taskbar?
@thealexknapp Well, yeah, guns are tools of the trade in rural areas.
Less development means more wildlife means more predators means people need to be able to defend themselves.
That's not a US-specific phenomenon either, so framing it as red-vs-blue is hardly telling the full story.
@chrismessina isn’t this just essentially Mechanical Turk ?
Got some sushi for lunch and they forgot the wasabi. So, I pulled out a tube of the stuff that had been in my fridge for ages.
The good news is that my sinuses are now very clear. The bad news is that I won't be able to taste anything for the next week or so.
It's crazy how much most restaurants water that stuff down.
@mzedp @ct_bergstrom @emilymbender Right, but a common use case will be replacing customer service phone banks with AI. If an AI offers one customer a discount, but not another, wouldn't that have strong potential to be discriminatory?
This picture is going to be printed in history books as a turning-point for transgender people in the US. The open question is, which direction will the turn be in?
I don't know, and I don't have ideas for what I can do, but we are on the cusp of big, scary changes that will affect everyone, not just trans people, not just minorities.
If you were waiting for a call to action, here it is. They just banned her from the MT House using the rules of decorum. What better metaphor for where we are?
One Day Astronauts Will Be Breathing Oxygen Made from Rocks
When there's a permanent station on the Moon, astronauts will need a way to replenish their oxygen supply. Fortunately, there's an almost infinite amount of oxygen in the surrounding regolith, locked up with other elements like iron, aluminum, and silicon. NASA demonstrated that they could harvest oxygen from lunar regolith using the Carbothermal Reduction Demonstration device. Although it's relatively straightforward to do this with chemistry, the NASA instrument mimics the vacuum conditions of space, using the kind of power that would be available to future lunar explorers.

@SecurityWriter Isn't it safe to say that most security audits happen because companies know they're terribly screwed, and are finally spending the money to find out just how screwed?
You may just be a victim of sampling bias.
@freemo Not familiar with Elixer, but Python seems like the only reasonable answer there.
That said, I'd vote for C# with ASP.NET. The modern framework is portable and has much stronger language features to help prevent bugs up-front with less debugging and testing down the line, plus Razor Pages offer an elegantly simple solution to the model-view conversion.
How the hell is he still around?
DeJoy says USPS will keep raising prices, follow abortion pill rulings https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2023/04/26/usps-dejoy-prices-abortion/
@ct_bergstrom @emilymbender That's going to open up a whole new cottage industry of "AI Breakers" who learn how to prompt AIs to break their limitations and make discriminatory statements just to sue... The lawyers are gonna be so rich.
helpful future tip! you can identify actual smart people because they're usually humbled by the knowledge they've acquired and will be first in line to admit when they don't know something
there's some exceptions to this when sociopathy gets involved, but I've generally found it to be true
Remind me, who is weaponizing the government against free speech again?
@pixelpusher220 @shoq Right, but the best way to do that... is centralized caching infrastructure.
@freemo Right, but many of those existing services distinguish themselves by serving different types of content.
So, any new players need similarly distinguishing features to rise from obscurity.
Modular design could be that feature, but ActivityPub itself is pretty open to modularity on its own, so I wonder what the added value is in Bonfire...
