@alecui @freemo I think it's worth noting that just because you know the rules doesn't inherently mean you follow the rules.

Sometimes, knowing the rules well just better informs you how to break them in a more interesting fashion.

Otoh, I'll never accept "irregardless" as anything other than proof of idiocy.

@luna @freemo That people may have used prescriptivism in anti-trans agendas does not make prescriptivism itself anti-trans.

That's akin to saying that books are anti-gay because somebody wrote an anti-gay book once.

The logic simply doesn't follow.

Once again, the GOP proves that it totally loves socialism... but only for the rich.

If you ever wonder how much confidence aerospace companies like SpaceX have in their own technical competence, the answer is: absolutely none, henc...

@peterdrake Correct, same as private variables and all properties.

However, you can write Editor PropertyDrawers to teach the inspector how to display new variable types.

@jimdoppke @annmlipton If it's any consolation, my generalization was more about generation than profession, and I was picturing more boomer than gen-Xer.

But also, I can very much assure you it's not a caricature. I've worked directly with these people (they just weren't lawyers).

@briannawu True, but most people feel powerless to address those things. Whereas alt-text is something they can do to make at least one small corner of the world more accessible, where they can see the results of their efforts.

@briannawu Out of curiosity, why do you consider alt-text more aesthetic than systemic? I tend to think of it as being akin to wheelchair ramps; a subsystem of our sidewalk system that makes it more accessible.

@annmlipton Yeah, but usually those are the types that have their assistants print out emails for them to read. That such a person would even know how to use ChatGPT stretches credulity. Maybe a paralegal got lazy and he just didn't check their work well enough?

Usually, I can see a game feature once or twice and figure out exactly how it works.

But I'm not sure I'll ever understand how got its save/load system to run so fast. The amount of data that has to be encoded... it's insane!

@annmlipton I find it hard to believe anyone could be *this dumb* and still pass the bar. It must be a stunt to make a point or set a precedent or something.

@briannawu Wait, is this ironic/sarcastic? Really having trouble with Poe's law here.

@swordplay Hmmm... I can't think of any, but really, that mirrors real life. Teams needs some form of leadership to work effectively. The only examples I can think of without a clear leader are the stories *about* choosing a leader (i.e. Succession), but even those tend to be more about an abundance of leaders.

@lucifargundam Yep. But they seemed receptive when I brought these same complaints to them, so let's hope they get it resolved.

@lucifargundam I'm trying to buy some Magic Leap 2 AR glasses to prototype a product idea. But you can't just buy them from a normal competent online store like any other product. Nooooo... you have to go through one of their distribution partners listed on their website.
And those partners are all terrible in their own way. One is "backordered" on everything; the next has pages that won't load even after 5 minutes of waiting, and when you do get to checkout, the suddenly announce they'll send you a separate invoice for the credit card fees afterwards; and the last charges nearly $500 in various extra "fees".

It's ridiculous, and begs the question of why they don't just sell them through a reputable online marketplace like Newegg.

Why did Magic Leap choose to partner with only the shittiest possible retail websites for US distribution instead of just using NewEgg or something?

@Joshuamcvey Nice, what version has this? Been looking forward to this feature making it's way from VS Code.

Received my H-Bridges and rotary encoders in the mail today, so I think I have everything I need to start hooking up the actual electronics this weekend!

@Nick_Craver Hopefully they'll be able to contextualize. When watching MASH, I always have to remember than any dollar value is worth about 13x today, and also be aware that their writers fairly-regularly screwed up and used 1970s prices instead of 1950s prices.

@tshirtman You said "if Email become harder, it might help alternatives emerge".

@tshirtman I'm of the very strong opinion that that's not a valid justification for increasing user friction. If a better standard is to emerge, it needs to do so by *being better* not by hobbling its competitors.
