The menu UI transitions in Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp are terrific. Love how the saved game item is a window into the mission map that grows/shrinks!! #gamedev #ui #games

Resistance against trans genocide often looks and feels like this: one, lone trans woman, standing alone, with no allies around her, her voice silenced, her dead mic raised defiantly above her head, her terrified eyes begging someone to listen, to help, to stop this madness.

Took my first ground school lesson today and got my FTN number!

Finally on my way to being a pilot, which I've wanted to do since I was a kid.

Google has just updated its 2FA Authenticator app and added a much-needed feature: the ability to sync secrets across devices.

TL;DR: Don't turn it on.

The new update allows users to sign in with their Google Account and sync 2FA secrets across their iOS and Android devices.

We analyzed the network traffic when the app syncs the secrets, and it turns out the traffic is not end-to-end encrypted. As shown in the screenshots, this means that Google can see the secrets, likely even while they’re stored on their servers. There is no option to add a passphrase to protect the secrets, to make them accessible only by the user.

Why is this bad?

Every 2FA QR code contains a secret, or a seed, that’s used to generate the one-time codes. If someone else knows the secret, they can generate the same one-time codes and defeat 2FA protections. So, if there’s ever a data breach or if someone obtains access ....

Sometimes you come across an article or documentary that you were not expecting to hook you in, that manages to combine a whole bunch of interesting issues in one amazing narrative.
This, from @ryanhoulihan is one of those, and covers AI, deep fakes, the music industry, culture and Britney Spears.

If you remember the Black Mirror / Miley Cyrus episode from a few years back, strap in, this is an even wilder ride.

You can tell from the starship explosion the press isn't really incentivized to learn from a decade+ of mistakes, either. Musk's bulbous ego and a rush to launch on a dumb weed joke date resulted in him nixing flame diverters, which severely damaged the launch pad and engines, all portrayed by the press as a smashing success:

A good deep-dive (written pre-launch) on how the largest rocket in history was launched from a dirt-cheap site that would be substandard everywhere else in the world, including Russia and China.

This was a massive regulatory failure, everything from knowingly relying on bad data to outright evasion of review by omitting critical infrastructure.

There should be accountability.

I'm noticing that have a *lot* of trouble repeating Ketanji Brown Jackson's name correctly.

They almost always replace her first name. The latest example in the output was "Tanisha Brown Jackson".

Seems... uh, problematic.

I've been disgusted by the lack of professional solidarity among journalists ever since Musk bought Twitter. As Musk bans journalists one-by-one, their colleagues stay on Twitter, tweeting out their work, hoping that they'll survive the next round.

I'm sorry but this is just the funniest shit ever.

These losers were mad that celebs had checkmarks and they didn't. Now they can buy the same checkmark and they're mad that the celebs won't.

They finally cracked the Mayan calendar, and the reason they couldn't before is that the 819 days of the calendar have to be viewed across a 45-year time period to fully understand, and that is just 🤯

The Mayans were wild, man

You guys are laughing but that rocket carried all the remaining blue checkmarks

I was raised on country music, so I say this as a lifelong fan: Can we please stop making country songs celebrating murderous vigilantes and lynch mobs? I'd really appreciate it, thanks.

It's unbelievable to me that any modern language in 2023 could still struggle with circular imports. wtf...

I'm curious: How many microblogging sites besides #Mastodon do you post on regularly nowadays?

Please boost so we can get a better sample size ❤️
