Racists suing to end affirmative action actually ending legacy admissions instead would be *chef's kiss*

Harvard’s legacy admission targeted in civil rights complaint, in wake of national affirmative action ban https://www.bostonglobe.com/2023/07/03/me...

If you think sliding a magazine into a handgun looks satisfying, let me tell you a little bit about electric leaf blowers and their batteries...

LOL this is not how you deal with "data scraping," this is how you deal with a catastrophic loss of system capacity.

You limit data scraping by blocking things a human user couldn't do, like access a thousand posts a minute. This is aimed directly at reducing normal activity across the whole system.

In thirty years, the only remaining evidence that ever existed will be when people refer to "subtweeting" without knowing why it's called that.

I gotta say, although this puts me at odds with most of the community, but from what I've read, I don't really see that much of a problem with the decision about the marriage websites.

In the issue at question, the business owner was rejecting a message, not a class of people. If a person wanted to buy a wedding website for their straight couple friend, it would have presumably been no problem.

That's a right that owners of expressive businesses *should* have, and it should apply equally to everyone.

For example, an designer should be free to reject any clients who want them to build religion-aligned anti-gay websites.

So long as we can apply the jurisprudence equally (I know, I know), this seems like the right decision for everyone.

Apropos of absolutely nothing, a reminder of JFK’s successful Harvard application essay

I bet future generations will look at our weight loss practices much like we view bloodletting with leaches.

"They used to do what?!?"

In 50-100 years, there'll probably be over-the-counter pills you can take to cause your body to remetabolize 10 lbs of fat. Getting your beach body won't even involve weeks of fasting and endless exercise... It'll just require you to set aside one day for chemically-induced purging.

So, if the United States is in a “post-racial society” that doesn’t need Affirmative Action, why was their an explosion of hate groups when a Black President was elected? And why is right-wing media bashing Critical Race Theory and warning people about Replacement Theory?

Almost seems like the most racist people are the ones who claim there’s no racism anymore.

Ad blockers are also cybersecurity. Say it with me.

They reduce malvertising, watering hole attacks, and general malicious script execution. It’s not all about you, ad firms.

How can we possibly fix racial injustice and achieve racial equity if we cannot acknowledge race at all?

since no one at work is going to give me an award, i'll have to do it myself #css

Tell me you don't know anything about the history of segregation without telling me.

#SCOTUS "just ruled that no American should be denied educational opportunities because of race," says House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. "Now students ...

I'm not a big fan of the overbearing in most modern , especially .

Most horror movies I watch these days, there are moments where there's a blink-and-you-miss it scare, but the soundtrack makes damn sure you don't miss it.

Which means I miss it, hear the soundtrack, and then have to rewind to find out what the hell I was supposed to have seen.

Which sucks, because rewinding a movie is the quickest way to destroy suspension of disbelief.

Discussion of quality of S6 of Black Mirror, but not spoiling plot

Black Mirror S6 E3 "Beyond the Sea" appears to have gotten relatively positive reviews online, but my friend and I hated it. Every single plot point was a predictable cliché and the plot itself was full of egregious logic holes.
Black Mirror episodes should surprise us or make us see a new perspective, but this story has been done a thousand times in fantasy and sci fi history, and quite a bit more competently too.
This episode was a real letdown.
