I've been telling the zealots who think they are going to get Americans or Canadians out of their cars and onto bicycles that this was going to happen. Pro tip: It's not just your ordinary lunatic conspiracy theorists that are afraid that the far left is coming for their cars. You saw how upset people got over a nonsense report that they were coming for your gas stoves, and people care a WHOLE LOT MORE about their cars than their cooking utensils. And it is exactly this kind of thing that cause moderates to tip conservative.

And I do understand that objectively speaking, car owners should not have anything to worry about if a city becomes more walkable or bikeable. Except that we have all been around long enough to know that if you give zealots (of any political persuasion) an inch, they'll take a mile.

Personally I love taking walks in nice weather and when I am not in pain, particularly if the surroundings are pleasant. But I don't want to be forced to do it in the cold/wind/rain/snow in order to get basic necessities.
