@Melody@masto.ai @nbcnews I will just point out that no matter how well intentioned these start, eventually they get co-opted by the grifters who want to use them to further their own agendas. No one alive now was around to experience the "Azusa Street Revival" (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azusa_St) but it was the basis of modern Pentecostalism, which in turn was the basis for many of the aberrant theologies that followed. Most of the disgraced TV preachers of the 80's and 90's were Pentecostals - Jim Bakker (of the "PTL Club") came out of the Assemblies of God, for example. The biggest exception to that would be the Southern Baptists such as the Falwells, which are unfortunately more prevalent today due to their racism and other exclusionary beliefs.

The thing you have to remember about religion is that any time it is "organized" it is ALWAYS used to control others. Whoever rises to the top of the pecking order will be telling others how to live and what to believe and what to do. I believe that in any true "revival" people would look inward to find their spirituality, and not rely on churches or preachers, and certainly they would not be wanting other people to tell them how to live and what to believe. Because, the problem then is they will seek out preachers and others who will tell them what they want to hear. ANY other human is going to be wrong sometimes, and give you bad advice sometimes, but the problem with those who do it under color of religion is that they can say that "God is speaking through me" and then if you disagree or challenge them they say you are opposing God (a psychological trick as old as religion itself).

Couple that with the threat of a firey hell for those who oppose God or "God's servant" and now you are into full on mind control (of course you never examine what the Bible actually says about "hell" in the original languages, or people would realize that there are three or four very distinct and different words that are all translated into the English word "hell", and none of them are the fiery inferno type "hell" - that word referred to an actual garbage dump in the area of Jerusalem, where the fires were neverending).

For some reason there is always a certain segment of the population that wants to be told how to live and what to do by someone else. And that might not be so bad if the people telling them what to do were truly pure of heart (haven't seen that yet!) AND if they would not try to impose their beliefs on others who have no interest in their religion (a few religions are like that, but definitely not "evangelical" Christianity).

My guess is that whatever this thing is, it will shoot up like a rocket and then come crashing down when the "high" wears off, but those who can't accept that it was just a temporary religious experience will form their own breakaway denominations that will soon enough be taken over by people who have their own self interest at heart, even as they wrap themselves in a cloak of false piety. Eventually they may even become the largest denomination in the country. Then in a century or so, it will happen all over again, assuming the planet hasn't become uninhabitable by then.
