@donwatkins The counter argument is that you can ask questions on and it will never put you down or get snarky because it thinks you didn't put enough effort into finding an answer on your own first. Nor will it deliberately give you answers that are way over your head just because it feels like being an asshole that day.

For people who have been criticized for wanting to be "spoon fed" answers, ChatGPT is a ray of sunshine from heaven. It will gladly spoon feed you answers all day without complaint, and all you have to do is check what it tells you to make sure it's correct. Also, it may suggest novel solutions for a problem (things you might never have known about or thought of). It will never get pissed off because you didn't thank it profusely enough for some marginally helpful (or totally unhelpful) advice. It won''t get mad because you reject a solution it has provided and ask for a different one. If you don't understand something it has said you can ask for further explanation and it won't imply that you are the stupidest person on the planet. Nor will it assume that if you are running you can't possibly just be a plain user, but instead that you must be a coder or a programmer because all Linux users are required by law to be coders or programmers.

None of that is true in some forums/communities, particularly Linux based ones. I get the point the author is making, but the real point should be that people who hang out in certain forums need to stop being assholes, lest they find that users turn to ChatGPT or other programs for answers and the only people left in their precious communities are other assholes like themselves. Then the two or three of them can just argue with each other all day about who is right and wrong!
