@jeremydebose @mttvll @ivory @tapbots @MonaApp @dimillian Many people would be upset if they couldn't see the posts they might have missed. I know I would.
That said, I suppose apps could have an option to only get the last x hours of toots at startup. But personally I would never use that option.
@dimillian @jeremydebose @mttvll @ivory @tapbots @MonaApp I guess some people read faster than others I get around 800 unread toots quite often and I just scroll through them and only dwell on the ones that interest me. That said I wish there was a way to do negative hastags (don't show me a post if it contains a specific hashtag, even if it's from a person I normally follow or has a hashtag I normally follow, because it's not a topic I am interested in). And also I wish Mastodon would stop showing me toots I have already seen or that I boosted, favorited, or authored. If I boosted or favorited it that means I have seen it already and I don't need to see it in my home timeline again! Same when someone else boosts of favorites a tooty I have already seen. Seems like out of 800 toots, 400 of them are duplicates or triplicates or worse.
Basically we all want to cut down on the number of toots we see to a managable level, but throwing some away based on age is to me about the worst way to do it. Just because a toot is a day or two old does not mean it can't contain some information I really want to see. If you must throw some away, the ones I'd vote for are the ones I have already seen, and the ones written in a language I don't speak (at present I mute every single person that posts in something other than English, because that's the only language I understand so it helps declutter my timeline. No offense intended, but why would I want to see toots that I can't decipher?).
@jeremydebose @dimillian Unfortunately every time I look at it, it still says "Not compatible with this device." And this is on a MacOS system running Monterey.
@Lunatech @dimillian I see now you can do that on the website. Filter by language on Preferences (Other).
@Lunatech @dimillian luckily apps like Ice Cubes helps there. Filters and inline translation 👍
