@Lunatech @samurro @engineerminded unfortunately,this is true. I've been linux user for 15years,but the more I use it(and love it),the more often i have to say that forcing terminal down users throat is the biggest repelent in broader acceptance of linux as desktop OS. I can use it, but total newbies are simply mortified by even thinking about opening it.
And then there another group who send screenshots with comments "look what my terminal can do/looks like". Talk about self sabotage...
@ASP @engineerminded Right, and all I am saying is there should be an option to NOT install software packages you know you will never use. To be fair I have the same problem with #MacOS, it installs several apps that I have never used and that I wish weren't taking up space needlessly.
@ASP @engineerminded Timeshift can but I do not think that is the default and in fact I believe they recommend against it for some reason, and you need to make some changes in the configuration for it to do that. It is not like Time Machine where everything is pretty seamless, and there is no equivalent to the companion Migration Assistant application.
@Melody@masto.ai I have been following you for a couple of days but I am going to stop if you don't start including headlines or some text from the articles you provide links to. You have this practice of making a comment and then providing a link, but you actually have to click on the link to find out what you are commenting on. Mastodon is like drinking from a firehose anyway, and people don't have time to click on your links to figure out what exactly you're replying to. For example, you wrote "Ask them about the sex abuse of children and domestic violence against women in their churches, tho…" and then provided a link. Who is "them"? I'm not going to click on a bare link to find out.
Hope you take this as constructive criticism but if you don't, please feel free to block me, I won't mind.

Patient cancelled this afternoon. High school student (and their entire family) sick with #COVID19. To politicians/leaders who assert “let’s return to normal,” do you see that this is NOT normal?? Students and staff miss more school and they risk #LongCovid with (re)infections.

You just made my point for me. That very common attitude among #Linux users is exactly why Linux on the desktop is not more popular.
Most people don't want to have to "solve problems" just to be able to use their computer. People use computers to get stuff done, or for entertainment, or other tasks that have nothing to do with solving problems (at least not computer-related problems). I realize that some Linux users find solving computer-related problems enjoyable and mentally challenging, but the majority of the population will never share that view. And that is a big reason why Linux on the desktop is still not really a big thing, at least not the way it would be if Linux people would realize that "just plain users" exist and not insult them or denigrate them for not finding enjoyment in solving computer-related problems.
