Just another reason not to use #Ubuntu. I cannot stand #Snap packages. They are garbage compared to #Flatpak, and they are proprietary to Canonical. I find a lot of what they do goes against the spirit of #FOSS. That is just my opinion. I use #Fedora #KDE spin, but if you want a Debian based distro there are many that aren't Ubuntu.

This is not strictly true, the Apple app store says "Not compatible with this device" but it is a Mac Mini running MacOS Monterey.
@IceCubesApp No, it is NOT available for MacOS, at least not for Monterey. I've tried to get it and the app store says "Not compatible with this device!" But it is a Mac Mini running MacOS!

So I’m not surprised by the decision to remove Flatpak from Ubuntu flavors and prevent them from including it—it’s a “competing” tech that virtually everyone in the Linux space who isn't Canonical has rallied behind, after all. You wouldn’t want to make it easy to install 2,000 apps from indie devs and big names alike via Flathub, or to use the unique and compelling ecosystem of elementary AppCenter, or to get the very latest straight from GNOME.

@jeremydebose @dimillian Unfortunately every time I look at it, it still says "Not compatible with this device." And this is on a MacOS system running Monterey.
@dimillian @jeremydebose @mttvll @ivory @tapbots @MonaApp I guess some people read faster than others I get around 800 unread toots quite often and I just scroll through them and only dwell on the ones that interest me. That said I wish there was a way to do negative hastags (don't show me a post if it contains a specific hashtag, even if it's from a person I normally follow or has a hashtag I normally follow, because it's not a topic I am interested in). And also I wish Mastodon would stop showing me toots I have already seen or that I boosted, favorited, or authored. If I boosted or favorited it that means I have seen it already and I don't need to see it in my home timeline again! Same when someone else boosts of favorites a tooty I have already seen. Seems like out of 800 toots, 400 of them are duplicates or triplicates or worse.
Basically we all want to cut down on the number of toots we see to a managable level, but throwing some away based on age is to me about the worst way to do it. Just because a toot is a day or two old does not mean it can't contain some information I really want to see. If you must throw some away, the ones I'd vote for are the ones I have already seen, and the ones written in a language I don't speak (at present I mute every single person that posts in something other than English, because that's the only language I understand so it helps declutter my timeline. No offense intended, but why would I want to see toots that I can't decipher?).
Years ago elementary was approached by Canonical to become an official Ubuntu flavor. “All” we had to do was offer Snap out of the box. We debated it—being able to offload some additional infrastructure concerns was attractive—but we realized it helped Canonical more than it helped us, and we had chosen Flatpak for all of its benefits as covered here:
"Ubuntu is drawing an ideological line in the sand that no-one has asked it to make."

「 In a surprise move, Ubuntu developers have agreed to stop shipping Flatpak, preinstalled Flatpak apps, and any plugins needed to install Flatpak apps through a GUI software tool in the default package set across all eight of Ubuntu’s official flavors, as of the upcoming Ubuntu 23.04 release.
As far as Ubuntu is concerned, only deb and snap software is intrinsic to the ‘Ubuntu experience’」
Mark, we don't need to witness further shitfication, just sell it to MS already.
People are leaving one star reviews on IMDB for The Whale on the premise that sinners deserve to suffer. These homophobes hide behind the fake guise of conservative christianity. If you want to be a c##t Sonny, don't hide behind the words of some archaic farmers, come out and say 'I'm a spiteful little c#nt with the brains of an amoeba, and an impending marriage to my cousin.' Unlike you, we don't judge. Even if you are a cu##. Scratch that, c##ts are useful.

Why you shouldn’t trust AI search engines.
Last week was the week chatbot-powered search engines were supposed to arrive. The big idea is that these AI bots would upend our experience of searching the web by generating chatty answers to our questions, instead of just returning lists of links as searches do now. Only … things really did not go according to plan.
