@thelinuxEXP Does this surprise anyone, given permanently removing snaps ended up being kinda convoluted?
This feels overbearing and anti-community, but distros that chose to be an #ubuntu flavor agree to a process that could be modified at any moment by #Canonical.
Derivative distros like Mint, Neon, and Elementary don't have to follow suite.
On the flip side, interesting to see Canonical double down on their own technology instead of just droping it.
Oh what a terrible decision.
Canonical will prevent Ubuntu flavors to come with Flatpak preinstalled, as they want to push snaps.
Kind of a Microsoft-like move here. Really bad.
@grobmeier While this is true, a single person can also be problematic. In particular programmers and developers typically do not speak the same language as users, and often fail to understand why changes they think are beneficial are not well received by users.
#opensource is good as it starts with just one or only a few persons. Foundations are run by many people. Groups of humans are always dangerous. So bigger so worse
Here's a video I found on the #birdsite of a woman speaking to the #Kansas City school board on privatizing schools. She's a PhD and a teacher in the public school system. But instead of registering her opposition, she turned the tables and voices support from a leftist perspective. It's quite funny.
This is important. We often think about Fox as the epicenter of right-wing propaganda. But what we don't talk about enough is how local news outlets launder MAGA propaganda as 'news.' Shame on this West Palm Beach NBC affiliate. https://youtu.be/kZS1kmFmkKk
The irony is that most of the problems presented here (both sides) are alleviated by #decentralization . In fact, the biggest problem is simply that large communities are too hard to manage, and thus companies turn to algorithms to do it (along with using them to prioritize revenue-generating content above all else, regardless of what that content consists of).

@lil5 @unix_discussions @charadon Just wish #LinuxMint would let you pick wish apps to install while setting up a new installation. They tend to instally everything but the kitchen sink by default, and if you are setting up a Linux box for one or two particular purposes you may not need all that bloat. In fact even if you are using it as a normal desktop system it still installs a lot of stuff you don't need.
You’d think #ubuntu would have learned from mir vs wayland
#LinuxMint was smart to create #LMDE
@bignose @jpoesen Just a personal opinion but I hate it when I am searching for something and get referred to StackOverflow or sister sites, because I know that their policies may have prevented or discouraged the best answers from appearing. I kind of hope they are one of the first big casualties of AI. My particular burning hatred toward them is when they close a question because it has attreacted too many "low quality" answers so then you must haver a certain number of reputation points to even post an answer. Hey dumbshits, not letting people who might know a good answer post it because they don't reqularly hang out on your stupid site isn't the way to suddenly make good quality answers appear (and also I question what they consider low quality, sournds like a pretty elitist attitude in many cases).
I just try to avoid their sites whenever possible (I will look at ANY other site first), and I truly wish search engines weren't so quick to refer people there.
I recently got annoyed by #Ubuntu's snap package mess.
I fixed it with one simple trick: Installing #Debian.

I dunno, moral of the story is..
uh.. Don't let managers fuck you over and stand your ground! When I lost that terrible job a weight was liften and new doors opened
And most of all, try not to work for a company that fucks people over for a living
you control that
