Question about Mastodon/Whalebird: How do I make a direct message? I tried clicking on the Direct Messages tab, and the main pane just shows a spinning arrow cursor.
@Lwasserman you can use the Privacy control widget at the bottom of the post editor window.
Default is Public, with a Globe icon. And there are others, the last one down is Direct Message or DM -- it will only go to people named in the message with their @ usernames @ instance.name
For a local account, here at qoto, you only need @ username (no space in there).

The direct message is in the post privacy. And have an envelope sign.
it’s not like twitter you just sent it. You @xxxx (the username of the people who you want to send) here, and nobody can see it except the one you @ him or her.
