I'm taking on a new role helping @ProPublica pursue ambitious work at the intersection of data journalism and engagement reporting.

Engagement, if you don't know, is about reporting collaboratively with your sources.

One of my colleagues described it as building a relationship with someone around the worst event in their life -- and then making something about it, together.

Data takes a more top-down approach. I think they complement each other.

If you wouldn't accept "I didn't say eradicate Jews I said eradicate Judaism" as an excuse, you shouldn't accept "I didn't say eradicate transgender people I said eradicate transgenderism" as an excuse.

They are calling for an all-out Holocaust against transgender and non-binary people. Anyone defending these comments are fascist enemy combatants and should be treated accordingly.

I understand people who want politicians to make everyone’s lives better. I understand people who just want politicians to make their life or their family’s life better.

But what I don’t understand is people who support politicians who openly aim to make some group of people’s lives worse. How do they think that helps them?
