@waitnwallflower fuk that guy everybody knows you're an amazing mom. Damn reply guys.

Democrats would be smart to run on this instead of on inscrutable "enhanced background checks and waiting periods" or whatever. "we will ban the AR-15" is a winning message.

"Only when our evidence proves guilt beyond a reasonable doubt do we charge or convict individuals of crime. When we have that evidence, as we do here, it does not matter if you were president or if you are running for president." Legislators: Don’t write bills about technical specifications that you don’t understand.

Especially when the impulse is based on fact-free election denialism in the first place.

In 2021, Texas lawmakers passed a law that is set to require counties to purchase vote-counting equipment that does not yet exist. It would cost taxpayers more than $100 million.

Now, legislators are reversing course.

German news website @heiseonline has been very active on the #fediverse, now the second largest news account. Editor @mho has extensively documented the process.

Findings compared to their (6x sized) Twitter account:

Way higher engagement than Twitter
Website traffic slightly below Twitter

Valuable information for any news organisation that is debating whether to leave Twitter, and which platform to join instead!

There are two new posts up on my Patreon.

The first is public and free for everyone to read. It contains thoughts about drawing from historic photos, the ageing process, and how words can affect the way you think of visuals. It also has the link to an incredible Ken Russell film. Read it here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/81583239

Deep in Florida, an ‘ecological disaster’ has been reversed—and wildlife is thriving.

20 years and $1 billion dollars later much of Florida’s Kissimmee River has been restored to its natural state. 40 square miles of wetlands have been reestablished and rehydrated. A milestone worth celebrating.

You don't need to use link shorteners on Mastodon!

All links on Mastodon count as 23 characters towards your post limit, no matter how long the links actually are.

Link shortener services like bit.ly, t.co etc track users who click on their links, so Mastodon removed any practical need to use them. If you still use link shorteners on Mastodon, it will be obvious to everyone that you are just doing it for tracking purposes.

I find that the more engagement I get on here, the more reply guys I get. It’s almost as if the guys exist in real life and the platform doesn’t have anything to do with it 🤔/s

The safest place from gun violence is an NRA convention, where guns are not permitted because they are too deadly.

"The state legislature, with the support of the #Republican supermajority, was poised to approve some of the nation’s harshest restrictions on SNAP. They include asset tests and new eligibility guidelines.

By the state’s own estimate, #Iowa will need to spend nearly $18 million in administrative costs during the first three years — to take in less federal money."

Excuse me, but how are people calling this a win?

What this 5th Circuit ruling means:

* FDA approval of Mifepristone remains

* Mifepristone cannot be mailed

* Mifepristone can only be dispensed after over 3 doctor visits

1. to administer mifepristone,
2. to administer misoprostol
3. assess any complications

Hope you’re rich and living where you can get three doctor visits in 49 days, ladies!

This feels like the soft crescendo before they remove more of our waning rights.
