This is my house.

This is a female rose-breasted grosbeak (Pheucticus ludovicianus). She is perched on the roof of one of my hanging bird feeders. She looks a lot like a female house finch, but bigger, and I think her coloring is more vivid.

I needed the jaws of life to free a plastic toy, for my cat, from its packaging, and yet here's a lightbulb doing just fine in thin corrugated cardboard.

Well said @CarolineLucas

Good morning. 🕊🕊🕊

I don't hear well. Many of the birds singing outside I can't hear. Most I can't hear unless I'm wearing my hearing aids. Sometimes, when people are speaking to me, I hear them but don't understand them. This sometimes makes for some comical exchanges. Often, when I hear a word that sounds like other words, I need context to figure out which word. This is true even with my wife, but I have to admit, sometimes I'm just messing with her. 😂 But my wife is the voice I understand best. She will, at times, translate for me when I'm not catching the whole meaning of something said. As always, she makes me better.

My #bookreview is brief/won't spoil, to spread good, great, & spectacular #horror #books far & wide.

A woman must outsmart a hellish hex to try & save a friendship that's rapidly turning toxic in CURSE CORVUS by Alex Ebenstein. This compelling, spooky tale will grab you in its claws (talons?) from the start & have you keeping a wary eye out for birds long after you've finished. (Dreadstone Press)

Microsoft's Edge browser appears to be sending all the URLs you visit to its Bing API website.

Reddit users first spotted the privacy issues with Edge last week, noticing that the latest version of Microsoft Edge sends a request to bingapis.com with the full URL of nearly every page you navigate to. Microsoft tells The Verge it's investigating ...

If closing a nuclear plant results in increased use of renewable energy, do it.

If closing a nuclear plant results in more fossil fuel use, don't.

I don't know why it is so controversial to say this, but even with all the problems nuclear power has, fossil fuel is still far worse for both the environment and human health.

Note to Self:
Remember that you cycled to the shops and don't start walking home without your bike.

Getting back on the bike after the Winter Hiatus can be both physically and mentally demanding.

@parkermolloy Have you filed reports? I don't know about masto.ai, but on my instance we would definitely would want to intervene if people were being jerks.

Hundreds of civilians killed and all essential services cut as warring generals fight for power.
Sudan: How are civilians impacted by the ongoing conflict?

#introduction I've been hanging out at writing.exchange for awhile getting the feel of fediverse. Some of the people I've followed I noticed are here. I feel this instance may fit our inclination better...more academic than writer to be precise.
Our primary intersections are philosophy, evolutionary psychology, Buddhism, and futurism.

Life in prison for being LGBTQ and having sex? Jail for people who don't turn in their LGBTQ neighbors? The same U.S-based white evangelicals pushing the anti-trans agenda in the U.S. have been pushing this law in Uganda. We stand in solidarity with the people of Uganda! #SayNoToAHB23
