Today I celebrate my 31 year anniversary of becoming a US Citizen on September 18, 1992.

Growing up in section 8 housing, surviving off food stamps, and working since I was 15, I experienced first hand for nearly a decade, the struggle that is every day for tens of millions of Americans.

I've experienced the ugly side of our country--the death threats for being Muslim, the xenophobia for being an immigrant, and the hate crimes for being a Muslim immigrant of color.

As #POTUS, #FLOTUS, & Ashley got up to leave, the restaurant’s patrons got up out of their seats & gave them a roaring standing ovation. The ovation even spilled out onto the street, & per reporters “people even cheered from apartment buildings.”

I watched this little squirrel for the better part of an hour, scurrying around without a care in the world in the Cherokee National Forest of East Tennessee. He was adorable, always inquisitive, always curious. Then he stopped, stood up, and seemed to do a side-ways pose standing up. Couldn't help but laugh!
