I’ll write a fuller response later, but when billionaire tycoons who profit from genocide say that they want to become “supermen” while explicitly endorsing colonialism, that’s not optimism. That’s fascism with a smile. I actually make stuff, and help other people make stuff, and genuine optimism (technological or not) looks like community, nurturing, organizing and empowering — not indulging billionaires who profit from genocide.

Just musing out loud: I keep trying not to be overwhelmed by frightening developments abroad and here in the US. At the same time, though, being overwhelmed by these genuinely frightening developments is a rational response.

There are people who are still alive who were alive when it was illegal to be gay.

Actually, if you're reading this you're one of them because its STILL illegal to be gay in about 70 countries and in the USA in only the past few days culturally controlling figures like Matt Walsh have supported "conversion therapy" for gay and queer people.

Do not take sexual diversity for granted. Because its violently coercive enemies don't. 🏳️‍🌈

I've seen this first-hand: Cowardly collaborators waving their hands with unspecified references to "state law" to justify their attempts to ingratiate themselves with would-be authoritarians.

These collaborators won't change course if you point out they're wrong about the law. But it's still important to do so.

The idea appears to be to let computers exponentially proliferate some of the tasks they excel at: numbers, statistics, labelling people, copying, collecting data and mass surveillance. Rather than sit down and talk about how we boost the values we as humans wish to proliferate: compassion, love, care, connection and belonging.

Few are talking about how the former is antithetical to the latter.

I’m not saying ”stop using computers”, I’m saying ”stop letting computers assume the leadership position”. Computers can act as aids for compassion, love, care, connection and belonging. Think of games, text-to-speech and long-distance communication. But computers arrive there by instruction code from humans. Not the other way around.

The more alarming truth is this: computers can be used to destroy compassion, love, care, connection and belonging much faster than we can keep up with building it. Sometimes that destruction is with intent, but often it is oblivious.

It's another gloomy n sunless morning. As anticipated, the temperature has taken a dive off the weather cliff. It dropped to 45 degrees last night. Was in the low 60's before that. And expected to barely reach to high of 60 if we're lucky.🥶

So it's a good morning to sit n sip n sulk over my miserable Monday. So #joinin n let's get the sulking started. 🫥

Apparently, again #today, the wife has succumbed to the sofa sunday siren songs. Once again, I woke up n stunbled on out to discover her snuggled up on my soft n cozy comfy couch. I've created myself a sofa stealing sofa surfing monster, and I fear I have lost my sweet sofa seat forever! 😱

Well, at least until she gets hungry and gets up to forage for breakfast. 😀
