I am the son of an immigrant.

The wife and I decided to check out a new to us Mexican restaurant called XCaret here in Winston Salem today.

Food was really good. Afterwards, we went to Bitty & Beau's for some iced coffee. The company has a really great story as to who they are.

Now, it's time to get comfy at home and just rest and relax until after Christmas.

I want some honest feedback. How would you rate this account, on a scale from 9 to 10?

I'm having a really hard time lately just *being* in a world so bent on self destruction. I think the worst part is that we're not even all in agreement around ideas like "burning down the world is insane" or "murdering children is bad".

It was easy enough to not be a part of the problem, but we know that isn't enough, and I'm powerless to do much of anything else.

So the world burns and children are murdered... and I'm watching my family put up a Christmas tree.

Yesterday I spoke at the Aurora City Council meeting against an anti-refugee amendment.

I pointed out the facts—that asylum is a human right, that immigrants, including undocumented immigrants, demonstrably boost economies, have lower crime rates than US Citizens, higher vaccination rates than US Citizens, and strengthen our cultural beauty.

I reminded those in attendance of the horrors inflicted upon Jewish refugees seeking asylum on the S.S. St. Louis in 1939

FDR rejected their pleas, sending 954 refugees back to Europe, where more than 250 of those Jewish refugees would be killed in the Holocaust.

I closed with the powerful wisdom of Krish Vignarajah who reminds us that, "We welcome refugees, not because they are American...But because we are American."

Let us live up to our American values of justice, humanity, and human rights. That's how we form a more perfect union.

A healthy democracy is a pendulum, with peaceful transitions of power when the swing reaches its peak. And even at its peaks, the minority rights are still protected and guaranteed.

The far right isn't interested in playing democracy. They want to break the pendulum. They want it to swing as far right as possible, then rather than transition power when they lose the support of the population, they want to instead impose permanent minority rule.

Moderates and Liberals seem to constantly be blinded by the fact that in the past there have been peaceful transitions of power, so they can simply sit back and wait for their turn.

But that's not the game that's being played these days. Leftists keep screaming about how we're in danger and we need to be throwing our full weight against the right swinging pendulum to slow and stop it before they can break it, but we keep getting called hyperbole, paranoid, or whatever.

When a fash says what they want to do, BELIEVE THEM!
