I'll confess that I felt disturbed yesterday by the eruption of conspiracy theories immediately after the Supreme Court denied cert before judgement.

(I attached a definition of conspiracy theories)

It happened here (somewhat) but I saw it more on other social media sites.

People leaped from a decision they didn't understand to theories of secret collusion and corruption.

Why not wait for more information?

I continue to believe that the way to save democracy is to hold on to facts.

Putin can leave Donbas, Crimea, and abandon its naval base in Sevastopol - those are the terms of a ceasefire.

Ukraine gets back its territory, every inch of it.

Russia pays reparations to rebuild. (Russian oligarchs have assets everywhere waiting to be forfeited and sold)

Putin stands trial for war crimes.

Those are the terms of a "ceasefire".

The GOP’s Deficit Plan: Spoil the Rich, Starve the Kids
CRUEL AND USUAL
Republicans are super-serious about fiscal responsibility. So they’re gutting food stamps and giving the ultra-rich more tax cuts.
I grudgingly admire their relentless consistency around one issue which has the ability to unite both RINOs and MAGAs: They will never miss an opportunity to starve the poor in order to fatten and butter up the rich.

The Canadian Province of Alberta just legalized corruption. Changing the law so that the premier and cabinet can't accept gifts over $500 unless they give themselves permission and if they give themselves permission they are allowed to receive unlimited gifts and kickbacks of any amount.

Same goes for the nurse who called police that Brittany Watts (who notably is Black) returned to the hospital not pregnant after miscarrying at home. Because of that nurse she now faces charges of abusing a corpse. Any health care worker colluding with police should lose their license at minimum and in the case that lead to Elijah’s death be jailed thehill.com/homenews/4370854-h

This will and should make paramedics hesitant to act like cops and use drugs like ketamine as a chemical restraint without a valid medical indication.

The relationship between paramedics and cops is far too cozy and I hope this helps separate health care from policing. Saying they will now be hesitant to respond to true medical emergencies is disingenuous as best. #ElijahMcClain thehill.com/regulation/court-b

The store Target closed at Folsom & 13th St, blaming crime, actually had the lowest crime rate of any Target in the whole Bay Area. It was just underperforming. Probably because they opened too many stores and devoted too much floorspace to groceries in a neighborhood that already has Foodsco, Safeway, Costco, Gus's, and Rainbow. sfist.com/2023/12/22/sure-enou #SFPol

I have interviewed 100s of candidates for software engineering positions.

I’ve done take-home tests, in person challenges, pair programming with the candidates.

All of them were awful experiences for me and especially for the candidate.

I can only think of a single instance where a code challenge exposed a poor software engineer and I could definitely have made the same assessment just by talking to them.

Lately I’ve stopped doing any software or mental puzzles.

I don’t do any of that when I interview designers or QA people or HR people, so why would I be particularly toxic towards software engineers during the hiring process?

Instead, I actually read their resumes (which is significantly quicker than doing interviews, asking them to repeat the same information), and then I ask them questions like:

- Where do you get your tech news?
- How do you learn about new technologies?
- What do you most appreciate in your coworkers today?
- What is a perfect workday like for you?

I specifically avoid trap-style questions like “what is your greatest weakness?” or “why are you leaving your current job?”

I recommend that you make a plan for what you want to learn about the candidate, e.g. “are they good at acquiring new skills?” or “do they share the same values as the team?” and then structure the interview around that.

Be a non-toxic manager. Make your company look good during the interview process. Get better candidates.

Armchair, made in England about 1625

Ornate Italianate chairs like these, apparently, were popular in circles which were close to Charles I and Whitehall.

….just found out that Meta has also taken the business account for @ESPR. I did nothing. Haven’t even engaged in a while.

So that means Facebook has deleted both my accounts for either pro-Palestinian content or reporting/fighting antiblack racism on their platform.

I might just decentralize permanently after this. There no reason to use any of these nazi-influenced platforms. The full enshittification of the internet is on and fascist led. Insane.

Ummmm. Interesting. Once I mentioned I saw his association to Threads and Xitter and I would not boost anything from there, he withdrew his follow request.🤔 🤨 😏
