Bay Area Derby is a women-/queer-/trans-led roller derby league based in West Oakland. We've been able to thrive as a top 20 league since 2004 by having a space, Peralta or "The Pearl" we've been able to call home.

@BlackAzizAnansi @kichae yeah, I suspect that's a big part of it--along with people discovering that their friend's servers had defederated from theirs because they picked a "bad" server. (Also people getting scolded for picking a "bad" server). There's no good way to pick your server from the outside.
