As Pauncho and I didn't have enough chaos in our lives, we got ourselves a kitty this weekend. His name is Kaze, Japanese for 'The Wind' cuz he's all over the place and one hot mess!

Pauncho remains dubious but is coming around, while Kitty Kaze is giving him far fewer arched backs and grows increasingly curious.

This is definitely an issue. I appreciate that my institution and the largest university system contributing to these journals took a stand against them.

That said, you are absolutely right. In my field (education) there are two sets of journals, one more research focused, highly valued and prized in the academy, and one practitioner focused (for teachers and teacher educators) that is largely ignored in the academy, but has direct impact on teacher preparation and teachers teaching. I also think about fields like climate change, with these theoretical and practical audience divides.

I do wonder when and if the academy as a whole will do some deep reflection and reform/revolt/abolish some of the archaic systems in place designed to perpetuate this problematic system.
