This essay by @pluralistic perfectly captures my own reasons for taking a pass on Threads and Bluesky. ActivityPub is open and federated, and these attributes are important enough to outweigh its (current) relative deficiencies, both technical and social. Any walled garden, however idyllic, becomes a prison.

Sacrificing freedom for convenience is problematic. Sacrificing freedom for a brief period of convenience followed by endless exploitation is stupid.

Previously Secret Memo Laid Out Strategy for Trump to Overturn Biden’s Win - The New York Times https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/08/us/politics/trump-indictment-fake-electors-memo.html

as recently as 6 years ago I still encountered dipshits who tried to tell me that adhd wasn't real and I am almost 100% certain that those dipshits now wear maga gear proudly

Tonight, the voters of Ohio, a red state, decisively rejected an amendment entitled Issue 1, which would have erected new barriers to protecting abortion rights in Ohio’s state constitution.

Most Americans believe that your body is not the property of the government. Your body is YOURS to control.

I thank everyone who serves our country well and works for the state efficiently. There must always be a result for Ukraine. Every day at the front and in the rear... Every such day – with results – brings our victory closer. Like today – with a law enforcement result and cleaning of Ukraine. We all know that our state must change, must undergo transformation. And this means that those who work for their own benefit, not for the sake of Ukraine, will not be in public office or MPs of Ukraine.

These days, not so much.

I've had several inquiries about how to get a print of some my photographs. This is a hobby for me, so I haven't been equipped to handle those requests. But I enjoy what I'm doing and want to share my photographs.

So, I set up an account and website with pixels. My website is: https://swede1952-photographs.pixels.com/

If you want a print of one of my photographs, you can get it there, If I haven't loaded it, let me know which one it is, and I'll gladly load it there for you.

Cheers!

This is a female ruby throated hummingbird (Archilochus colubris). In this situation, the bird perches on some dead branches of a boxwood. This was just a tactical stopping point. The boxwood was near some of my hummingbird feeders, and this bird is approaching the feeders from below. The feeders at that location were being guarded by a male hummingbird who was trying to run off all other humming birds.

"Ruby-throated Hummingbirds normally place their nest on a branch of a deciduous or coniferous tree; however, these birds are accustomed to human habitation and have been known to nest on loops of chain, wire, and extension cords." - allaboutbirds.org
