My grandmother is in her last days. She just turned 97 yesterday.

She was an accomplished, brilliant woman, who held to her principles and championed feminism and anti-racism in a time of tremendous change.

Our relationship was difficult, but she was always proud of my work as a writer.

Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Those who prevent you from learning about history fully intend on repeating it.

You know what would really stop corporate malfeasance? Every infraction, no matter how small the fine is set to 10% of their market value. Now that would be proper corporate regulation. #today #Corporations #Fines.

Finally we have photo confirmation of the Ukraine drone attack at Soltsy Airbase.

What we see here is a cheap Ukrainian quadcopter drone destroying a 40 million dollar Russian Tu-22M3 long range bomber, 670 kilometers behind the Russia border.

Wonderful! @hildabast writes:

"It’s exciting to join in the growth and success of truly social media – media that doesn’t trap us in commercially-owned spaces that are extractive and manipulative. It feels worth investing in a community for the longterm when you know they can follow you if you move to a different neighborhood."

There’s a HURRICANE this weekend heading for Baja and Southern California. Folks, that is not in any way normal.

I may not live long enough to see the worst of the impacts of climate change, but I want to use my voice and platform today to urge action.

We can start by ending subsidies and investments into fossil fuels. Full stop.

Just got word from Granada Hills that my #RainGarden #landscape project there is performing admirably. No water has flowed off the property. about 1500 sq ft of roof runoff is directed into it and the nearest sensor has registered 4.2" in the last 24hrs.

That's about 4,000 gallons captured and sunk.

On July 15, 1944, in Bristol England, the "Park Street Riot" occurred as 400 Black soldiers confronted 120 MPs over pub access. Observers later recounted that locals rooted for the Black troops. Like the Battle of Bamber Bridge a year earlier, this event underscored the racism Black troops faced as well as the disconnect between how they were treated overseas vs in their own country.

I shared this privately before, but I just got the okay to share it in public. The Bluegrass Archive is online with a website and everything. This is a MASSIVE trove of legal live #bluegrass recordings from earliest days right up to now, which you can download and listen to for free. It is one of the greatest achievements of the fan-driven #music archiving community I've ever seen. I contributed a small number of filesets out of the thousands here. #music

I'll never forget how, in July-ish 2020 a (different) NYT reporter publicly admonished me on Twitter for suggesting that it her article was misinforming the public by arguing that COVID reinfections were improbable. I pushed back w/ evidence showing COVID reinfections were already taking place but that the CDC wasn't tracking on the data. She doubled-down. A few months later, I was proven right. She won some kind of journalism prize for her COVID stuff. Anywho, better late than never, NYT ⤵️

"Sistine Chapel of the Ancients." Deep within the dense Amazon rainforest in modern-day Colombia, archaeologists recently discovered an 8-mile-long "canvas" filled with ice age drawings of giant sloths, mastodons and other extinct beasts, dating back to between 11,800 years and 12,600 ago.
