I recently had to tell a person that I believe that you nearly cannot live on a standard German graduate fellowship when doing a PhD in Berlin and that they should rather look for a 2/3 position which is the common alternative in the field. It's not great either but it's at least 500 EUR more.
I believe we have to change these fellowships.

@MolecularXtal even this system of half position or 2/3 position payment, when you actually work full time, it is a very weird and not fair system!
@P_Kontis Not saying that it isn't. Actual recommendation of our Fachgruppe at the DFG at the momnt is 2/3. I guess we have to get active to change such things.
